As a heuristic to work on research study designs for my eventual dissertation research study (Spring 2009), I developed a series of sketch research designs following the modes of inquiry described by Stephen North in this Making Knowledge in Composition (Heineman, 1987). These "North-based" designs are also supplemented with other designs.
