Task #1: Diagnostics
Diagnostic Essay
Write an essay on the topic given below--just write this essay to the best of your abilities. It is a diagnostic essay, so do not worry about a grade. Turn this essay into our online learning environment, Canvas. You should write this essay within a 1 to 2 hour time frame.
Diagnotic Essay Topic: Do you think the government should pass some form of regulation of TV violence? Those in favor of such a regulation point out the negative impact such violence has on young people and the difficulty parents have shielding their children from such violence. They believe that the voluntary system of labeling violent shows is not enough and only allows gratuitous violence. Those opposed to such government regulation of TV violence believe that if the government were to limit such content it would violate the first amendment right to free speech. Similarly, they don't favor government regulation and believe the TV industry can regulate itself just fine. Some even question the alleged negative impact of TV violence on children. Write an essay to be read by an instructor on the issue of whether the government should regulate TV violence. Support your position with logical arguments and appropriate examples. |

Task #2: Book Project --Part A (Writing Pieces #1-3)
We will start with a few easy to do pieces of writing that will get you started in the class. It will also help us get to know each other a bit. See the handout on Book Project for more details. Book Project pieces #1, #2, and #3 are due as part of this Assignment Cycle.

See the Announcements page for exactly what our due dates will be for completing this work. ALL writing pieces for BP-A are due on the due date listed in the calendar. ALL writing pieces must be turned in electronically to be considered "on-time."
Task #3: Getting Familiar With Our Online Learning Environment
In the orientations we will be going over our online learning environment. I recommend that you spend some time here at the beginning practicing using it.
Note: The Book Project will span Book Project Assignments #A-C For BP-A, you do only the first three writing pieces of the Book Project.
